On Tap

Helping you get your weekend viewing priorities straight since 2007

Thursday

7:45 (ESPN) Boston College @ Virginia Tech. This is a real chance for BC to disprove their doubters and make a statement that they belong in the national championship picture. Playing VT in Lane Stadium in prime time is going to be a challenge though. Key Fact: The loudness of the stadium and the nastiness of the VT defense derail Matt Ryan’s Heisman campaign.

Friday

9:00 (ESPN) Boise State @ Fresno State. The winner of the BSU/FSU game has won a many WAC championships in the last 10 years, now that FSU has rebounded from a horrendous season this game should be no different. Key Fact: Fresno’s head coach Pat Hill has the best mustache in college football.

Saturday

12:00 (ABC) WVU @ Rutgers. Rutgers has a chance to knock off two top tens teams in a row. West Virginia is looking to keep itself in the BCS/National Championship hunt. This should be one of the better games on a great day of football. Key Fact: There should be somewhere in the neighborhood of 500 yards rushing in this game.

3:00 (FSN) USC @ Oregon. The winner of this game puts themselves in a prime position in the Pac 10 championship race. USC is starting to get some of their injured pieces back, but have looked less than dominant the last three weeks (beating ND by 38 is not dominant). Oregon on the other hand has played well all year (including in the loss to Cal). If there was ever a year for Oregon to finally get past USC this should be it. Key Fact:

3:30 (ABC) South Florida @ Connecticut. South Florida tries to rebound from last weeks defeat at Rutgers. Connecticut tries to keep the moment (and refs) on there side to remain in first place of the Big East. Key Fact: Connecticut is playing a home game on national TV, and no folks this is not a basketball game.

3:30 (CBS) Georgia @ Florida. The loser of this game will have three SEC loses and somehow will still be alive to play in the SEC championship. Key Fact: This game will always be known as the "world's largest cocktail party", no mater what the PC people have to say about it.

7:00 (ESPN2) Kansas @ Texas A&M. Holy crap Kansas is still undefeated, and they even left their home state to get a win. A&M is still fighting for their coach’s job and would like nothing more to knock of the Big 12 north upstart. Key Fact: Kansas starts a quarterback who is rumored to be around 5’9”, all of these teams losing to a team with and Oompa Loompa at quarterback should be ashamed of themselves.

7:45 (ESPN) South Carolina @ Tennessee. Phil Fulmer is shaking in his shoes at the thought of the Head Ball Coach coming to town the week after he lost to another important rival. USC is coming of a miserable performance against Vanderbilt and will look to exploit the dominance of Spurrier over Fulmer. Key Fact: Game in Knoxville = too much orange.

8:00 (ABC) Ohio State @ Penn State. What is that you say? A test for Ohio State? Well some on air talent said the same things last week before the MSU game and as soon as the game was over went back to the “Ohio State has not been challenged”. I would agree they have not been challenged, when you are significantly better than your opponents the game should not be a challenge, just ask (Michigan, California, USC, ….). Anyhow, OSU has not done very well playing in Happy Valley, the crowd alone should give PSU 7-10 points. Look for this game to be a struggle. Key Fact: The last time OSU and PSU faced off JoePa had to run off the field to take care of “business”. Hopefully this year he does not have the same problem if he is out with the tailgaters (339 portajohns for 100,000 people).

10:15 (FSN) California @ Arizona State. ASU gets a mad Golden Bears team coming to town. California has lost two straight and has started to play their way out of the Pac 10 race, a win here will start to correct that, but they will need help from others. A win for ASU will keep them right in the national championship picture, and upcoming games with Oregon, USC, and UCLA could move them front and center. Key Fact: This game starts just late enough to be ending right at the time of a drunken stumble home from the corner bar, you have to love that.

Sunday

1:00 (FOX) NY Giants vs. Miami. Why should you watch this game? Because the game is in London and that is the only reason. The Dolphins barely resemble a professional football team these days and Elisha Manning should tear the Dolphins D apart. Key Fact: I predict at least one person vomiting from consuming too much warm beer with their fish and chips the night before the game.

* there is very little respect for the word fact around here.
