On Tap

Helping you get your weekend viewing priorities straight since 2007

Thursday

7:45 ESPN: Texas A&M vs. Miami. 3-0 A&M travels to the Orange Bowl to take on a less than impressive 2-1 Miami (wins over Marshall and FIU are hardly quality). Key Fact: Miami will have to play someone at QB, something they are probably not thrilled about considering their choices.

Saturday

Most, if not all, of the noon games look ugly on paper which means one or two will turn out to be a great game so keep your remote handy to surf channels.

3:30 ESPN: Northwestern vs. OSU. Northwestern travels to take on OSU in the Shoe. Key Fact: Northwestern lost to Duke last week, yes that Duke.

3:30 ABC: Penn State vs. UM. Michigan is on an emotional high after dismantling Notre Dame 38-0 in the Big House last week. What? Beating Notre Dame does not carry the same respect as it used to? My bad. Penn State has lost 8 straight to UM and would probably like to end that streak. Key Fact: Chad “it’s a man’s bag” Henne is still hurt and may not play.

3:30 NBC: MSU vs. ND. No win situation for MSU, everyone thinks they should win, but if they lose they will be the laughing stock of college football. MSU has won five straight in South Bend, no team has ever won six. Key Fact: Jimmy Clausen will not be arriving at the game in a stretch hummer.

3:30 CBS: USC vs. LSU. No not that USC, South Carolina fools. Steve Spurier brings his #12 Gamecocks into Baton Rouge to take on the #2 team in the land. A win would go a long way to prove that Spurrier is the greatest college coach to ever walk the earth. You don’t believe me? Spurrier won an ACC title with Duke, yes that Duke. Key Fact: Odds of a South Carolina quarterback getting arrested this week are 3 to 1.

6:00 ESPN2: UK vs. Arkansas. Can Andre Woodson keep it going and break the all-time record for attempts without and interception? Woodson is 15 shy of Trent Dilfer’s record of 271(seriously Trent Dilfer holds an NCAA record????). Key Fact: Having essentially abandoned the quarterback position, Arkansas will not even bother using an offensive line this week, they will just have Darren McFadden snap himself the ball and start to run.

7:45 ESPN: Georgia vs. Alabama. This should be the last ranked team undefeated Alabama will face until they meet LSU on November 3rd, a win here is a must. Key Fact: Nick Saban is probably quite happy he decided to stick with the Miami Dolphins this year.

8:00 ABC: Iowa vs. Wisconsin. Who cares? How is this game the game of the week on ABC? Iowa just lost to Iowa “we can’t beat anyone not even 1-AA teams” State. Wisconsin is going to hand the ball to P.J. Hill 47 times. Key Fact: I intend to have had too many beers to be able to watch this game.

Sunday

4:05 CBS: Cleveland vs. Oakland. This should have been a battle for the 1st pick in the 2008 draft (so what if Cleveland has to give the pick to Dallas, #$@!!&) but if the Browns offense can continue to put up points like it did last week maybe they can give the Cowboys a pick closer to 6. Key Fact: The Browns put up 51 points last week, not a misprint.

Baseball

The Tribe has Oakland in town after sweeping the Motor City Kitties. Two wins puts the AL Central in the bag. Key Fact: I have a ticket to the second ALDS game in Cleveland, hell yes.
